Social media is playing a larger role in journalism as a tool for community engagement and reporting. I strive to incorporate social media tools in my reporting as well as a supplemental element to stories. I've managed social media accounts as well as run my own personal social media platforms.

Twitter

Twitter is a social media tool in which people can share a status of no more than 140 characters and can share photos and videos.

In addition to my personal Twitter, I've also managed the Twitter account for The Pitt News and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Pipeline.

Storify is a tool to aggregate different social media tools to create a story involving the community.

Day 115: Occupy Pittsburgh campers face eviction
After 115 days at Pittsburgh's Mellon Green, the Occupiers had to leave the camp after a court eviction.

Facebook

I've managed the Facebook for both The Pitt News and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Pipeline. For the former, that included a revamp of the way the publication manages the Facebook by posting more frequently and paying attention to visuals. It also includes a popular highlight -- allowing Pitt affiliates to submit their own photos to have featured as The Pitt News' cover photo.
